BAMBOO WALKING TOURS: 1:30-3 p.m. on the second and fourth Sundays through Nov. 12 at Haiku Bamboo Nursery/Farm, 468 Rhodes Mountain Road, Hendersonville. Next tour is Aug. 13. ALT AND SMOKE DINNER: West Asheville Tailgate Market Supper, 7:30 p.m. Aug. 29 at 718 Haywood Road. Several courses of classic French country cuisine using ingredients sourced from vendors at the market by chefs Josiah McGaughey and Pepijn Van der Geld. $50. GROWING COLD-HARDY GRAPES IN THE MOUNTAINS: Classes on propagation, planting, training, trellising, pruning and harvesting at Jewel of the Blue Ridge Vineyard in Marshall. All classes are $35 and meet 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays (except as noted) and include provided lunch. Topics include harvesting (Thursday, Aug. 24 and Aug. 26), grape-based products and processing (Thursday, Sept. 28), and winemaking (Thursday, Oct. 5 and again Oct. 7).
