AN Anglesea nursery owner has been slapped with a ban from the state’s gardening industry peak body for his alleged bad behaviour.

McGain’s Nursery, Cafe and Food Store owner Peter McGain has confirmed he had received a banning notice from the Nursery and Gardening Industry Victoria.

Mr McGain wouldn’t comment further on the ban, but it is understood it came as a product of his alleged behaviour at the monthly NGIV Trade Day Markets at the Caribbean Gardens in Scoresby.

A woman claiming to have witnessed the horticulturalist’s behaviour, said he had been banned after ongoing issues, including leaving one NGIV staff member “shocked and traumatised”.

The witness, who asked that her identity be withheld, said Mr McGain regularly entered the market before opening hours and ignored staff members.

On July 4 Mr McGain moved trolleys to park his van in a prime position at the market, and allegedly became angry and abusive after he was asked by a staff member to move, the witness claimed.

It is understood no official police report was made following the incident, but that Knox Police were warned of Mr McGain’s behaviour prior to the following Trade Day Market on August 1.
