A well-to-do graphic designer who used to break into the houses of the rich and influential (read politicians, senior officials, businessmen) and then use their wealth to make himself seem wealthy and posh has been arrested by police. His stash of expensive watches, tuxedos and such was also taken.
Siddharth Mehrotra belongs to a well-educated family and his father used to be a bank manager, reports TOI. He held recces of upscale localities and upon realising that the buildings didn’t have an intercom system between guards and residents and that vehicles were not searched, he made plans to break in.
“Since January, many burglaries were reported from upscale areas of south Delhi after which teams led by ACP (Vasant Kunj) K P Kukrety and SHO (Vasant Kunj-N) Gagan Bhaskar were formed to conduct raids,” said DCP (south) Ishwar Singh.
When the raids turned futile, Bhaskar searched for high-profile burglars in Delhi-NCR on the internet. Soon he zeroed in on Mehrotra whose physical appearance matched with a thief seen in CCTV footage from one of the burgled houses, writes TOI.
